Litszen’s Canadian Tour of Untitled Worthies: Day 0 ☞ Jason Penney

Jason Penney is a textile artist/ sculptor in St. John’s Newfoundland. I met him at art school in Halifax. He used to throw dreads at me when he was making dyes, and once chased me around the room with a pink dress onto which he’d stitched a vagina and the words ‘I Have Herpes’. He wanted me to try it on. As I recall, my brother was also visiting. I think I managed to stay out of the dress.

Jason can pull together an amazing look with wool, leather and sort of…eaten away, fragile-looking things. He makes a mean drink with vodka and coconut milk–or at least he did once, about 9 years ago.

Jason has a wonderfully deep and fierce sense of justice. He just wants people to be nice to each other. He has an equally deep and fierce sense of humour and he’ll laugh at you if you’re stupid.

Jason has been the first stop on my tour of Untitled Worthies.
